BIG SPOON is a microwavable, rice-filled comfort device made from a recycled Uniqlo shirt. Designed to be cuddled, it mimics the sensation of being held—offering warmth, gentle weight, and emotional comfort to support deeper, more restorative naps.

I often found it difficult to relax in my room, which impacted my ability to rest and recharge. This tension affected my mood, focus, and overall well-being. I set out to create a simple, comforting solution to improve my napping experience.

Through self-led experiments using the Pillow app, I tracked how different environmental changes affected my nap quality. I discovered that warmth, physical pressure, and a sense of being “held” significantly improved my ability to relax and fall asleep quickly.

BIG SPOON recreates the calming feeling of a warm embrace, helping the body release oxytocin and reduce stress. Its weighted, cozy form encourages faster sleep onset and emotional ease—combining sustainability, simplicity, and human-centered design.
