Fish Wakesurf

Product Design

The Fish WakeSurf project involved designing and crafting a custom wakesurfing board, focusing on performance, functionality, and aesthetics. The process began with extensive research to optimize the board's shape, considering factors like rocker, rails, and concave to balance speed, stability, and maneuverability across various wave conditions. After selecting lightweight, durable woods like balsa and cedar for their strength-to-weight ratio, I created a prototype to refine the board's dimensions in relation to my own height.

Using the FabLab at university, I built the board with precision machinery to save time, followed by continuous shaping to enhance maneuverability. Epoxy resin was applied to protect the wood, providing strength, flexibility, and an eco-friendly finish. Sanding and finishing gave the board a smooth surface to reduce friction and improve water flow for better control. For the final touch, I crafted custom fins using resin and silicon molds, achieving a transparent and wooden effect that complements the overall design.

This project offered hands-on experience in surfboard design and construction, from material selection and shaping to resin application and fin creation, resulting in a custom wake surfing board.
